| Greetings!
For several years, my partner Pam Plesons and her family have been planning for adventure. Just a few days ago, Dennis, Pam, Marina and Niko set sail aboard their 45-foot boat Ohana. They plan to explore the world together for a year. From now until they return, you can read about the many facets of their exciting journey through Pam's log on our site. No doubt you will enjoy their tales of triumph and challenge and perhaps be inspired to set out yourself!

When Pam first told me of her family's planned adventure I had mixed feelings. On the one hand, I could not have been more excited for them. At the same time, I knew I would miss our almost daily collaboration. As the time drew closer for their departure, I was tempted to stow away!
More than anything I have been filled with admiration for the way Pam and Dennis planned for this exciting journey. Taking time away from their impressive careers, planning for "sailboat schooling" and all the details involved in leaving your daily routine behind and being prepared for life at sea - it was an extraordinary undertaking!
Significantly, the Plesons family set sail knowing they would have the special challenge of managing young son Niko's Juvenile Diabetes. While Dennis is a physician, they knew they must be prepared for all contingencies while at sea. Proper planning was essential.
Their story is remarkable. I hope you will enjoy reading about their "Live Without Limits" journey as much as I will. Stay tuned for the excitement! -- Lynn O'Rourke Hayes |
| Making The Decision To Sail |
 |
| SANTA BARBARA, CA. Fall 2005. Daily family life for us, like so many, has become one frantic rush. Out the door early to school, work, PTA, sports practices, music lessons, carpooling, homework, quick dinners, more homework, and then bedtime. Weekends fill with long drives out of town to soccer and tennis tournaments, then birthday parties, and playdates.
Although the kids are happy and doing great academically and in their activities, we rarely have time to share quiet, special family moments. In our efforts to do the "BEST" for our family...we may be missing out on the most important aspects of family life together.
Our Ohana "Live Without Limits" Sailing Adventure is our attempt to claim back our family and enjoy the time we have together. The kids grow quickly and before we know it they will be ready to move on. This is our chance. The "soccer mom" lifestyle will be here when we return, as well as everything else.
We hope that our experiences away from the daily race will enhance each of us individually and as a whole, strengthening family bonds and providing memories to last a lifetime. We're ready!

Niko Plesons, was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes, or Type 1 Diabetes, when he was 4 years old. During their OHANA "Live Without Limits" sailing adventure it is crucial that they manage his diabetes successfully and maintain his good health. While this is sometimes difficult, it is very possible. The family has always adopted the attitude that you can do anything, even with diabetes.
They plan to illustrate, through their experiences, how life can be lived without limits even with diabetes.

| If Not Sail, Ski! |
 |
| We're going to stick to land this winter. And we are hoping a good portion of it will be snow covered!
Come November we will be launching Ski The West...and Beyond. (Also known as Lynn and Ted's Excellent Ski Adventure ! ) My sixteen-year-old son and I will be reviewing the latest in ski destinations, gear and getaways.
Watch for ski-focused newsletters chock full of great rates, special packages, programs for children and teens and, of course, news about where the snow is falling!
Let it snow! -- Lynn O'Rourke Hayes
